A deep, fully opaque black, the sort that goes on in two coats and leaves no sheer patch near the cuticle. The finish imitates gel: glassy, almost wet-looking, with no UV lamp or curing step involved.

Wear time is stated at up to seven days, and that is without a base or top coat, which shortens a manicure session considerably. Black also happens to be the starting point for most graphic nail art: white dots, a reverse French, fine lines.

Black forgives very little: clean around the nail with a fine brush dipped in remover before the coat sets, or the overspill shows from a metre away. An acetone-free remover will take noticeably longer on a shade this heavily pigmented.
